Description
Five troy ounces of .999 fine silver in a vintage Engelhard bar, the wide poured version. Poured means cast, in Engelhard's own usage, so the surface has the texture of the mold and no two are the same; one measured example is about 56 millimeters across. The front carries the Engelhard hallmark with the weight, fineness, and a serial number, P-prefixed on the 8th series and C-prefixed on the 9th. Engelhard, founded in Newark in 1902, stopped making silver bars in the 1980s.
Expect handling marks and toning on a bar that age.
