Description
The 1999-W $5 Unfinished Proof Dies Gold Eagle is a notable error coin from the U.S. Mint, distinguished by the accidental use of proof dies for minting regular strike coins, which were not intended to bear the "W" mint mark. This error resulted in a limited and uncertain production number, with estimates suggesting that if only one pair of dies was used, around 6,000 of these coins might have been minted. However, the exact mintage remains unknown due to the lack of official records. Certified by PCGS, these coins have become modern rarities, with the potential to appreciate in value due to their scarcity and the popularity of the American Gold Eagle series.
