Description
The Perth Mint's 1996 Year of the Rat in gold, from Lunar Series I: a quarter troy ounce of .9999 fine gold with a face value of A$25. The coin is 7.78 grams, 20.1 millimeters across and 2 thick. Tony Dean's design shows the animal perched on a rocky surface; the Perth Mint's own table names 1996 the Year of the Mouse. As on the rest of Series I, a beaded border frames the Chinese character for the animal, the date, and the weight and purity. The obverse is Queen Elizabeth II, in Raphael Maklouf's portrait, with the face value.
