From Lunar Series I, The Perth Mint's 1996 Year of the Rat: one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold, A$100 face value. The coin is 31.11 grams, 32.1 millimeters across and 2.8 thick, with a reeded edge. Tony Dean's design shows the animal perched on a rocky surface; the Perth Mint's own table names 1996 the Year of the Mouse. Series I reverses carry the Chinese character for the animal, the year, and the weight and purity inside a beaded border. On the other side is Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the face value.
The Rat opens the twelve-year cycle, and 1996 opened Series I, which ran to 2007. Pure Qualified: tested here before it goes out.
