Austria's 1976 gold 1000 Schilling holds 0.3906 troy ounce, 12.15 grams, of pure gold on a coin 27 millimeters across and 1.6 thick. One side shows a knight on horseback carrying a pennant, taken from the seal of Duke Friedrich II, with EINSETZUNG DER BABENBERGER and the dates 976 and 1976. The other shows the Republic's eagle with mural crown and shield, a broken chain in its talons, and REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH.
