Two hundred fifty grams of .9999 fine gold, 8.038 troy ounces, from a refiner on the London Bullion Market Association's Good Delivery list, which names the refiners whose bars LBMA has accredited as meeting its standards. Depending on inventory the bar arrives sealed or cast: a sealed bar is minted, flat-faced and bright, and carded; a cast bar is poured, with the softer edges and surface of the pour, and carries the refiner's stamp. Either way it comes with its assay certificate, which carries the weight, purity, and serial number.
A quarter kilo is a different object from the gram bars: it sits in the palm as a solid slab rather than a wafer, and the finish, cast or minted, is what you notice first.
